It was a hot July day when I made the little road trip from Ottawa to Alexandria to photograph Julia, owner of The Quirky Carrot, and her father who does some of the baking for the cafe. It doesn’t take much to see how much fun these two were to hang out with and watch work together! Their laughter and presence was so joyful it really showed off what a gem of a place The Quirky Carrot is to be in! I was sent there on assignment for Edible magazine and I love how I get to tie being an Ottawa small business photographer with photographing editorial stories like theirs. Technically this was an editorial photo shoot, but the images I was able to capture that day also fell inline with what a branding photo shoot of s small business could look like too 🙂 Take a look below at some of my faves and click here to see more shoots like this!
There’s something about florist shops that just feel so magical! Of course there’s the gorgeous florals and arrangements, but when I walked into Bloomfields Flowers in Ottawa and met Virginia I was immediately transported to the most warm and welcoming place! Our conversation flowed so easily while I photographed Virginia working her magic on putting together arrangements made from local blooms. I love being an Ottawa small business photographer and photo shoots like that show me exactly why <3 Scroll down to see my favorite photos from the shoot and click here to see other shoots like this!
Fresh baked cinnamon rolls, a sunny local eatery and business owners like Mel from Grow Your Roots are some of the best things about being an Ottawa small business photographer! And taking some of those delicious vegan cinnamon rolls home after the shoot? Even better 🙂 I photographed Mel and her cafe for a feature in Edible magazine and it was such a great shoot! I was able to capture such a variety of images including Mel in action, some of the menu dishes, portraits, and interiors of the space. I love working with small business owners to create a library of images for them to use in their marketing and socials, but mostly I love their excitement when they get to see themselves and their work shining as bright as they know it can be! I met Jessica, owner and founder of Ottawa’s Hippie Mylk, when I photographed her for Edible Ottawa magazine. She’s the kind of person that has contagious joy and makes your day happier just by having a conversation with her 🙂 Check out some of my favorite photos from her mini photo shoot!
Is there anything better than finding your new favorite coffee shop? You know the ones. You walk in and immediately want to start Instagramming it because it’s so gorgeous, but you keep it together while you go order your coffee and snack. Your order comes so you go sit down at the cute table with perfect window light or get cozy in the leather chairs and decide you’re never leaving. That’s 692 Coffee and Bar in Manotick. Ashley Izsak was the interior designer and also did their website design which was where I came in! We worked together to create photos of the space that showed off their brand and the welcoming feel of the cafe.I also captured photos of the owners in action to keep it natural and authentic and finished off with some food photography of their favourite menu items (and I can say from experience that the sandwiches and pastries tasted as good as it they look!) Here are a few of my favourite photos from the day!
