If you’re a business owner in Ottawa and you’re thinking about doing a branding photoshoot chances are you need some ideas on where your shoot should happen.
When you reach out and we start planning your shoot I will send you some suggestions based on the kinds of photos you need, but if you like to get some ideas before hand here are some of my favourite locations for branding photoshoots Ottawa!
I love it here! It’s a house that’s been renovated into a content creation studio space so it gives so much variety. There’s a kitchen, living room, dining room, office and two different bedrooms all with a neutral color palette and well decorated.
This is the space for your shoot if you want a more cozy, homey feel or if you want a lot of variety in locations for your shoot.

This is a large, open concept space that has a great combo of styled, furnished table/office area and living room/couch area. It has an industrial loft vibe to it, but also super bright and white with big windows.
This is the perfect space if you want some photos of doing what you do, using the table and various chairs, wanting more natural poses AND want some with simple backgrounds or space to play (like getting motion blur, etc)

Skye has 3 different studio rooms to choose from and they each have their own style and decor! They switch it up semi-regularly too so it’s always a good idea to check their socials before booking to see the current set up.
Their spaces are great for a photo shoot that focuses more on you!

This is a large studio space in Kanata that is similar in style and size as Quay Studio. It’s a great space to get a mix of lifestyle, you doing your thing and has space to move.

I haven’t actually used this space yet, but it looks beautiful! There’s unique features like stairs and arches that would be fun to use. The size and style of this space is similar to Skye in that it would be great for photos that feature you.
Ottawa has great studio rental options for your branding photoshoot, but if you’re looking for more ideas that aren’t studio then check out my other blog post for More Location Ideas!

As a yoga instructor, sharing your teaching style, personality, space, and experience is such an important part of connecting with your students. When people are choosing a yoga class or instructor, they’re not just looking for poses — they’re looking for a feeling. Your photos are your first chance to share that.
A thoughtful branding photoshoot can show who you are, what you offer, and what your studio is all about. Here are some ideas to inspire your next yoga branding session in Ottawa.
Show yourself doing what you do best — guiding your students through a class. These photos bring your teaching style to life and give potential clients a glimpse of what it feels like to practice with you. Whether it’s a calm restorative session or an energizing flow, the right photos can express your approach beautifully.

Do you host classes online, record videos for YouTube or host online experiences? We can show that too! I actually recommend it. It helps people get a feel for the real person behind the screen and shows them some behind the scenes and what it will be like when they join you through their laptops.

Your studio space sets the tone for your classes. Whether you teach in a bright modern studio, a cozy home space, or even outdoors in nature, photos of your environment help people imagine themselves there. Include wide shots of the whole room, smaller vignettes of special details, and anything that makes your space feel unique.

From mats and blocks to blankets and singing bowls — these small details tell part of your story. Styled flat lays or close-ups of props in use can make your brand photos feel grounded and authentic.

People love to know the journey behind their teacher. You can include subtle nods to your certifications, workshops, or training — or capture images that show your dedication to your own practice. It helps build trust and shows the care and knowledge behind your teaching.

Don't forget to show the obvious! You actually going through a flow. This is a great time to grab some b-roll video too.

Maybe you’re known for your calming energy, your playful sense of humour, or your empowering classes — whatever it is, let’s show you! Personality-driven portraits bring a human touch to your brand and help new students connect with you right away.
Is your studio all about community? Mindfulness? Inclusivity? Sustainability? Let those values guide the tone of your photoshoot — from location choices to wardrobe, colours, and even editing style.

Your yoga brand is about more than just movement — it’s about connection, presence, and energy. Let’s create photos that capture all of that and help you share your practice with confidence!

When photographers say your brand photos will “tell a story,” do you just smile and nod but secretly think: what on earth are they talking about?
Same.
I’ll admit it... I’ve used that phrase a lot too. It’s one of those buzzwords that sneaks into the biz world and suddenly everyone’s saying it. But every so often I stop and think… wait, what do people think that actually means?
Because if I put myself in your shoes, I can imagine the reactions:
What story?
I don’t want to share my entire life story—this is not therapy, it’s photos.
Or my personal favorite: I don’t care about “story,” I just want photos I actually like and will use. We don’t need to overcomplicate this, folks.
And you’re not wrong.

So here’s the real talk: when I (or any other brand photographers) say your photos will “tell a story,” I’m not talking about writing the autobiography of your life in pictures. What I mean is this:
You’ll get photos you actually love and are excited to use.
You’ll have more than just the classic “smiling at the camera” headshots.
You’ll have images of you in action—doing your thing, working with clients, using the tools and details that make your brand yours.

The “story” isn’t just “look at me having a great hair day!” and it doesn't have to be "here's everything there is to know about me ever"
It can be:
This is who I am.
This is how I can help you.
This is what it feels like to work with me.
That’s the kind of story my brand photography tells. The one that helps people connect with you, trust you, and ultimately say, “Yes, I want to work with you!”

If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram or a website and thought, “Wow, they look so confident and polished—I wish I could show up like that,” you’re not alone. Many Ottawa coaches, service providers, and wellness professionals feel nervous about booking a branding photoshoot.
The good news? You don’t need to know how to pose, what to do with your hands, or even feel “photogenic.” My job as an Ottawa branding photographer is to guide you through every step so your photos look natural, relaxed, and so you.
Let’s take a peek behind the scenes of what a branding photography session in Ottawa is really like.

Every great photoshoot starts with a conversation. Before the camera comes out, I spend time getting to know your business, your brand personality, and how you want to be seen online. Coaches and wellness providers often tell me they want to look approachable and trustworthy. Designers and service providers often want photos that feel creative and knowledgable.
This step ensures that your photos don’t just look good—they feel like you.
Once we’ve talked about your goals (which I help you answer if you're stuck!), I create your personalized Shoot Plan. This includes:
The Shoot Plan takes away the guesswork so you feel prepared and excited before and during your shoot!

Here’s where the fun begins! Clients often arrive feeling a little nervous, but within minutes they’re laughing and feeling at ease. Why? Because I guide you through every step—where to stand, how to move, and even when to take a breath and just be yourself.
Some of the most common things I hear during sessions are:
“This feels so natural—I didn’t expect that.”
“I’m actually having fun!”
“You made me feel so comfortable in front of the camera.”
During your session, we’ll capture a mix of:
Headshots for LinkedIn and your website
Lifestyle photos that show your personality
Behind-the-scenes images of you doing your work
Storytelling shots perfect for Instagram captions, newsletters, and marketing

Within a week of your session, I go through your photos and send you a gorgeous gallery. This is where you get to choose your favorites which are the ones that I'll edit and deliver to you in a ready-to-post or use way!
The experience you have during your photoshoot directly impacts how your photos turn out. When you feel confident, relaxed, and supported, that energy shows up in your images!
That’s why so many of my clients say things like:
“You made me feel strong and beautiful through the experience.”
“Amy makes you feel so very at ease.”
“I felt confident—and I never thought I’d say that in front of a camera.”
At it's core, branding photography is about more than images—it’s about creating an experience that leaves you feeling empowered! And when you feel good, your audience feels it too.

If you’re a business owner in Ottawa, and you’ve been thinking about booking branding photos, I’d love to help! Together, we’ll create a photoshoot experience that feels natural, fun, and empowering—so you walk away with images that truly represent you and your business.

You’ve invested in branding photography, and now you have a beautiful library of professional images that truly reflect your personality and brand. But what’s next?
One of the biggest mistakes business owners make after a photoshoot is letting those photos sit in a folder on their computer. Your branding photos are meant to work for you—helping you connect with your audience, stand out online, and grow your business.
Here are some of the most powerful ways to use your branding photos to market your Ottawa business.
Your website is often the first place potential clients will go to learn about you. Fresh, professional branding photos:
Tip: Swap out old headshots or stock photos for authentic images from your branding photoshoot!

If you ever find yourself wondering what to post on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn, your branding photos are the answer. Use them for:
Tip: Pair your photos with storytelling captions to give your audience a behind-the-scenes look at your business.

Want to build stronger connections with your subscribers? Adding branding photos to your email newsletters makes them more engaging and personal. Use them to:
If you’re speaking at an event, teaching a workshop, or being featured on a podcast, your branding photos are invaluable. Use them for:
This not only makes you look polished and professional—it positions you as a leader in your industry.

Your branding photos aren’t just for digital spaces. You can also use them in print marketing:
Having professional images ensures your printed materials look just as high-quality as your online presence.
First impressions matter, and using branding photos in your proposals, contracts, or onboarding guides helps set the tone right away. It shows clients that you take your business seriously and care about the details.

As an Ottawa coach, wellness provider, or entrepreneur, your branding photos aren’t just “nice to have.” They’re one of your most versatile marketing tools. When you use them consistently across your website, social media, emails, and print materials, you create a strong, cohesive brand presence that attracts the right clients.
Ready to start using branding photos to grow your Ottawa business? Let’s create images that not only look amazing but also work hard for your marketing!

When most people think about brand photography, they imagine beautifully designed websites, aesthetic Instagram feeds, or updated LinkedIn profiles. And yes, brand photos absolutely help your business reach people with photos that your clients connect with!
But here’s the part that often gets overlooked: brand photography isn’t just for your business. It’s for you.
Because underneath all the strategy and content planning, what photos really give you is more ease, more confidence, and more space to focus on the things you’re actually here to do.
Here are ten ways brand photography works for you (the human behind the business):
When you’ve got a whole library of photos ready to go, content creation suddenly feels lighter. No more long pauses staring at a blank Canva template. Instead, you have images that already tell the story, so you can focus on the words (or hit “post” and move on with your day).

Let’s be honest: it’s hard enough to run your business, never mind thinking about fresh content ideas every week. Having photos ready means fewer excuses holding you back. You can show up with ease, without second-guessing how you’ll look or what you’ll post.
You’re already amazing at what you do. (That’s why you have clients!) But you don’t have to also be a photographer, stylist, and content creator on top of that. That’s what I’m here for — so you can keep doing your best work, while I make sure your photos support you.

There’s something about seeing yourself reflected clearly and beautifully that makes showing up online less scary. Your photos remind you: yes, you belong here. Yes, you look the part.
Most of us are our own harshest critics. But through the lens of brand photography, you start to notice the warmth, confidence, and expertise that your clients already see in you every day.

Instead of relying on stock photos or filler graphics, your visuals reflect your real personality. That makes everything you share feel more authentic, which is good for your business and good for your peace of mind.
When you’ve got photos that you actually love, you spend less time wondering, “Does this look okay?” and more time creating, connecting, and moving forward.

Think of your photo library as a cushion of support. On the busy weeks (and we all have them), you’ll have ready-to-go images that buy you time, energy, and sanity.
At the end of the day, brand photography is about collaboration. You don’t have to carry it all on your shoulders. We’ll figure it out together, so you walk away not just with photos — but with a lighter load, too.
Brand photography helps your business grow, yes. But it also helps you feel more supported, more confident, and more free. And that’s what makes showing up in your business sustainable for the long run.

If you’re a business owner who uses “we” in your marketing then you probably have a rockstar team surrounding you!
Branding photo shoots with more than one person can be some of the most fun shoots and they can really help you show your clients who they will be engaging with when they work with your company.
It can feel challenging to plan a photo shoot with multiple people, outfits, styles and keep it cohesive and on-brand without looking too matchy and uniform (unless that’s your thing), but with these tips and the support you get as we plan the shoot you’ll be able to walk into it with confidence.
What is the main purpose of these photos?
Will they primarily be for your website to show what it’s like working with you?
Will you be focussing on individual headshots or group photos for your About Us page?
Do you need stock photos for social media graphics, newsletters and website background photos?
Knowing where and how the photos will be used will help you answer all the questions that come after!
Team photos don’t always have to be the whole group smiling at the camera. This is a great time to get the authentic, real life smiles and laughter that you have with them on the daily!
Some ideas of what to do:

It’s a great idea to get both!
And usually the candids happen naturally when you’re trying to be serious-business-people with the same people you laugh and joke with on the regular 😉
The posed ones are great for your About Us page on your website, pinned posts on your Instagram account, etc
The candids are perfect for showing extra personality, what it’s like to work with you and the general vibe of your team.

It’s good to let everyone know the level of dressiness and preferred color tones for their outfits so that everyone looks great together. Check out the Outfit blog post to dive deeper into all things photoshoot outfits!
