Prepping for the Busy Times (When You'd Rather be Hibernating)

You know those busy seasons of life... like Christmas or any time that your calendar is maxed out?

I don't know about you, but for a lot of us what comes after those seasons are feeling to need to hide from the world and recover.

It’s a lot! And if you’re already feeling this you’re not alone. As business owners, we often carry this pressure to keep showing up even when our energy is fading faster than the daylight.

But here’s the good news:

There are ways to stay visible and consistent without constantly being online or burning out.

(and no, I’m not just going to say “get new Brand Photos!” as a magic fix-all 😉 )

The secret?

Having pieces in place that allow your business to run even when you need a break.

So when your schedule gets packed or you’re deep in hibernation mode and don’t want to show your face online…

Your business can still feel present, helpful, and alive.

Let’s walk through how to make that happen in a way that feels aligned with YOUR energy and biz goals.

Because there's no space for blanket-statement advice or "shoulds" over here. Take what you need, make it fit your style and apply it in a way that feels good to you.

Step 1: Create a REALISTIC Plan That Matches the Season You're In

We’re already trying to juggle a million things so please remember this:

You don’t need to be everywhere all at once.

That’s the fastest path to burnout, and we’re not doing that!

Instead, ask yourself:

Maybe posting once a week is enough.

Maybe this month is more about connection than conversion.

Maybe your business needs more warm and joyful content instead of sales-heavy content.

Don’t let the internet convince you that you need to do MORE to keep up.

You know your business best.

You’re allowed to choose a pace that supports you and your clients.

Step 2: Schedule Content & Marketing That Supports That Plan

Once you’ve decided what your business actually needs during this busy season, you can start to make it real.

You don’t need a brand new, full blown marketing strategy you just need clarity and intention. Try this:

Now you can decide how to make that happen for you and your life this time of year. Maybe scheduling a whole content batching day works well for you. Or maybe it's doing one thing a day that aligns with your goal instead. There's so much advice out there around the "right" way to do it, but in my experience the one that feels the best for you is the one you're going to stick to.

Also remember that it's not forever! This is just to carry you through this season and then you're allowed to adjust and change it later.

Step 3: Use the Words & Photos You ALREADY Have

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. You probably already have more content than you think!

Here’s where to look:

I can pretty much guarantee you already have things worth repurposing. You just need to gather them and say the same things in different ways (or in exactly the same way if you want to really keep it simple).

And if you don’t have a library of branding photos you love yet…

Then it might be time to fix that

Let’s get you photos that work for your business

Final Reminder: You’re Not Behind

Putting these pieces together now might make the next couple of months feel less chaotic.

And more importantly it might remind you that:

So when life gets busy and you cozy up into hibernation mode…

Your business can still show up for you because you set it up to.

Amy Zambonin Branding Photography

I read a LOT as a kid and teen. And somewhere along the way in my 20’s and beyond I guess I stopped?Except for the Twilight trilogy - for some reason I squeezed that one into my life and will stand by it being the masterpiece that it is.

Eventually motherhood came along and there definitely was zero thought given to reading for a bunch of those years.

But when my kiddos were 4 and 5 we moved to a new part of town and while we were walking around and exploring the neighbourhood I discovered a Free Little Library tucked away on someone’s yard. I opened it up and browsed the books, grabbing one that looked had a good cover. In that split second moment I decided I was going to read ONE book that year.

We continued walking and found our way to a playground so while the kids played I opened the book and started reading.

I probably only read a page or two that day, but it was more than I had read in years. And I needed that.

(The book was The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner if you’re wondering)

After that book, and rediscovering the magic of reading, I gave myself a very Amy-type-goal the following year:

Read four books

I read ten.

Nineteen the year after that. And twenty-three the year after that (although by then I wasn’t keep track of the number and just adding them to my GoodReads as I went).

Now it’s just a part of life. My favorite pastime and what I will choose nine times out of ten over scrolling my phone.

And it all started with an in-the-moment decision five years ago that, if I want to really go deeper, was me choosing myself. Something I hadn’t done in a long time.

Sometimes when you need a shift in life it doesn’t have to be this huge thing with goals and overthinking. Sometimes it’s just a choice you make and it unlocks something bigger.

You’re allowed to follow that.

Five Location Ideas for Your Next Photo Shoot

If you’re a business owner in Ottawa and you’re thinking about doing a branding photoshoot chances are you need some ideas on where your shoot should happen.

When you reach out and we start planning your shoot I will send you some suggestions based on the kinds of photos you need, but if you like to get some ideas before hand here are some of my favourite locations for branding photoshoots Ottawa!

Kuva Haus

I love it here! It’s a house that’s been renovated into a content creation studio space so it gives so much variety. There’s a kitchen, living room, dining room, office and two different bedrooms all with a neutral color palette and well decorated.

This is the space for your shoot if you want a more cozy, homey feel or if you want a lot of variety in locations for your shoot.

Quay Creative Co

This is a large, open concept space that has a great combo of styled, furnished table/office area and living room/couch area. It has an industrial loft vibe to it, but also super bright and white with big windows.

This is the perfect space if you want some photos of doing what you do, using the table and various chairs, wanting more natural poses AND want some with simple backgrounds or space to play (like getting motion blur, etc)

Skye Studio

Skye has 3 different studio rooms to choose from and they each have their own style and decor! They switch it up semi-regularly too so it’s always a good idea to check their socials before booking to see the current set up.

Their spaces are great for a photo shoot that focuses more on you!

MDRN Studio

This is a large studio space in Kanata that is similar in style and size as Quay Studio. It’s a great space to get a mix of lifestyle, you doing your thing and has space to move.

Amarah Studio

I haven’t actually used this space yet, but it looks beautiful! There’s unique features like stairs and arches that would be fun to use. The size and style of this space is similar to Skye in that it would be great for photos that feature you.

Ottawa has great studio rental options for your branding photoshoot, but if you’re looking for more ideas that aren’t studio then check out my other blog post for More Location Ideas!

Branding Photoshoot Ideas for Your Ottawa Yoga Studio

As a yoga instructor, sharing your teaching style, personality, space, and experience is such an important part of connecting with your students. When people are choosing a yoga class or instructor, they’re not just looking for poses — they’re looking for a feeling. Your photos are your first chance to share that.

A thoughtful branding photoshoot can show who you are, what you offer, and what your studio is all about. Here are some ideas to inspire your next yoga branding session in Ottawa.

Photos of You Teaching Class

Show yourself doing what you do best — guiding your students through a class. These photos bring your teaching style to life and give potential clients a glimpse of what it feels like to practice with you. Whether it’s a calm restorative session or an energizing flow, the right photos can express your approach beautifully.

Going Online

Do you host classes online, record videos for YouTube or host online experiences? We can show that too! I actually recommend it. It helps people get a feel for the real person behind the screen and shows them some behind the scenes and what it will be like when they join you through their laptops.

Highlight Your Space

Your studio space sets the tone for your classes. Whether you teach in a bright modern studio, a cozy home space, or even outdoors in nature, photos of your environment help people imagine themselves there. Include wide shots of the whole room, smaller vignettes of special details, and anything that makes your space feel unique.

Feature Your Props

From mats and blocks to blankets and singing bowls — these small details tell part of your story. Styled flat lays or close-ups of props in use can make your brand photos feel grounded and authentic.

Showcase Your Experience and Education

People love to know the journey behind their teacher. You can include subtle nods to your certifications, workshops, or training — or capture images that show your dedication to your own practice. It helps build trust and shows the care and knowledge behind your teaching.

Flow

Don't forget to show the obvious! You actually going through a flow. This is a great time to grab some b-roll video too.

Let Your Personality Shine

Maybe you’re known for your calming energy, your playful sense of humour, or your empowering classes — whatever it is, let’s show you! Personality-driven portraits bring a human touch to your brand and help new students connect with you right away.

Reflect Your Values

Is your studio all about community? Mindfulness? Inclusivity? Sustainability? Let those values guide the tone of your photoshoot — from location choices to wardrobe, colours, and even editing style.
